This is a late post on Canelo's victory over GGG on 15 September 2018.

Saul Canelo Alvarez wins rematch with Gennady Golovkin in action fight at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) got the nod from two judges for the majority decision victory. Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld scored the bout 115-113 in favor of Canelo and Glenn Feldman saw it even at 114-114.

Boxing fans at T-Mobile Arena were treated with back and forth action from these middleweight rivals. The rematch produced more action compared to the first bout as Canelo stood his ground from the get-go.

Canelo's strategy on the first fight was a surprise for me. He adjusted from a boxer-puncher style to outboxing style. In the rematch, I expected Canelo to use the same strategy in the first fight. But Canelo stood his ground early and stayed in front of Golovkin. I doubt if Golovkin wasn't surprised in that approach even.

The change in strategy, I thought would just for the first couple of rounds, but Canelo did the same thing till the end. After the final bell, two judges saw the fight in favor of the Canelo.

It was a close fight, to say the least, I mean there were swing rounds which could go either way. I have no problem watching the third installment if there's any, but I would love to see a match-up though between Canelo and Jermall Charlo next.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez arrived at T-Mobile Arena so serene and ready to go for his fight against Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night.

Canelo, (49-1-2, 34 KOs) stepped into the scales and weighed in at 159.4 lbs. The crowd in the full-packed arena were ecstatic to see their fighter posing for the cameras.  Canelo looks strong, relaxed, and in tip-top shape. There's no indication that he struggled to get the weight. Although there's a clip circulated online showing Canelo fell down after the weigh-in. Well, to me, it seemed someone pranked Canelo and took the chair from him.

Golovkin came into the scales first and weighed in at 159.6 lbs. As usual, Golovkin looks trim, strong, and ready to go.

So here we go, the fighters are ready for Saturday night's middleweight championship. Boxing fans around the world were excited about the fight. This will be the 13th round. A rubber match of their controversial fight that resulted in a draw.

I think both fighters wanted to win convincingly this time. GGG expressed he doesn't want the judges to write their verdicts on the scorecards. He's going out for the knockout tonight. Well, fight fans we'll gonna find out tonight. Stay tuned.

Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin both make the 160-pound middleweight limit during the official weigh-in on Friday (US time). Both weighed 160 pounds when they hit the scales for their anticipated middleweight championship fight on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

GGG (37-0, 33KOs) came in first onto the scales wearing the usual smile. He looked strong and ready to go. He's been fighting in the middleweight division since his professional boxing debut in 2006. There's no sign that he outgrows the division as he has no problem making the required division limit.

Canelo (49-1-1, 34KOs) came next and registered the same as GGG, 160 pounds. He looked muscular, strong and also ready to go. While in the junior middleweight division Canelo showed signs that he outgrown the division he dominated since 2010.

At the stare-off, the height advantage of GGG is obvious. Well, more on this advantage/disadvantage subject if I have the time to write the preview of this fight.

Meanwhile, many had said that if May-Mac was a show, but Canelo-GGG is a fight! I agree 101 percent.  I'm excited already.

Also, fighters from the Canelo vs. Golovkin undercard hosted a media workout at MGM Resort Hotel and Casino before their upcoming fights this Saturday, Sept. 16 at T-Mobile Arena.

No knockout win this time for Triple G. Gennady Golovkin's 23 KO winning streak ended Saturday night after the final bell sounded at the Madison Square Garden, in New York.

Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) just managed to escape with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) of their middleweight matchup. The scores were: 114-113, 115-112, 115-112.

Well, those who knew pretty well the reputation of Golovkin were expecting another knockout ending. But, well, of course, everyone was at the edge of their seat when the Kazak knockout artist dropped Jacobs early in the fourth round. But then only to watch the entire 12 rounds. And again, as usual, most Sunday morning here in Kuwait, I'm late for work. Anyway, who cares.

Although the fight was worthwhile to watch from start to end, I feel like there's a lacking because you know, I'm expecting a KO. Jacobs was really disciplined and a calm fighter that night. He was mentally tough and not even showed signs of panic after the fourth-round knockdown. I hate to say this, but maybe the size disparity gave him also that confidence that he can take the best shot of Golovkin. And in fairness, he did take a solid shot from Golovkin pretty well.

It showed also that Golovkin's offense can be neutralized by a well-executed game plan. And Golovkin is just right there in front of you, for an opponent to hit. You can ask Kell Brook.

Well, the last two outings of Golovkin exposed a few of his flaws. For sure, the camp of middleweight (not really a middleweight, but fighting above middleweight) Saul Canelo Alvarez noted these flaws down. Gennady said he will be like an animal when he faces Canelo.

Of course, I want that fight," Golovkin said. "I am like an animal for that fight, but I will give Danny Jacobs a chance for a rematch."

Undercard

In the undercard, Roman Gonzalez was upset by his Thai opponent Wisaksil Wangek. The challenger dethroned the pound-for-pound king to the tune of 114-112, 114-112, and 113-113. Gonzalez went down once in the opening salvo and was plagued with cuts due to accidental headbutts. Gonzalez was a bloody mess most of the fight as the blood was oozing from a cut above the eye and hairline.

Carlos Cuadras also won a slim unanimous decision over David Carmona. What do you think of a Gonzalez-Cuadras rematch? Are you interested? Or a Gonzalez-Wangek rematch?

After knocking Dominic Wade out, Gennady Golovkin wants his belt, and he doesn't care who wins between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan.

Golovkin made a successful defense of his middleweight titles by demolishing undefeated challenger Wade in two rounds of their title fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) scored knockdown in Round 1 with a left uppercut followed by a right hook to the shoulder that pushed down Wade to the canvas.

Wade (18-1, 12 KOs) was able to get up and convinced referee Jack Reiss to continue. It was just also in time that the bell sounded to end the round, and he was save by the bell.

In the second round, Golovkin sensing that Wade had very limited to offer in terms of power, steps up a little bit more of his offense. He's picking his punches and head hunting Wade with power shots.

Wade down again from another Golovkin shot, which he was able to get up. Reiss repeatedly ask question if he wanted to continue and he did continue. A huge left hook from Golovkin landed to the head of Wade. Boom! Down Wade went again!

Wade obviously hurt and the look of his face says it all. He's done. Reiss finished the count of ten and Wade still not on his feet.

The knockout streak continued tonight, with Golovkin winning inside the distance for 22 consecutive, 17 consecutive stoppages in title defenses.

 Earlier Nike dropped Manny Pacquiao, now they picked up middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin. Jordan Brand signs Golovkin and added him to the family of more than 50 athletes from a variety of sports.

Golovkin went on Twitter and posted a picture of him pointing the jump man icon of Jordan Brand with a caption "In case you missed it, I signed with this guy yesterday."

Golovkin joined the "Jordan Brand behind top world pound for pound undefeated champion Andre Ward and former World Champion Roy Jones Jr."

Canadian David Lemieux (34-2, 31KO's) was full of confidence during the final press conference for his middleweight title unification bout against Gennady Golovkin held Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden.

Lemieux told sports media present at the press conference that he will not leave empty-handed on Saturday night, 17 October.

"I have made a lot of changes in my life. All of I what I have done has lead me here and I am extremely excited and proud to be here. I am here to make history and I promise that I have done everything it takes to make sure that I don't leave empty handed I will leave with the belts." says Lemieux.

Lemieux had already faced defeat in his career before and he took this experience as an advantage against his undefeated opponent. "I have faced victories, defeats, but nothing is more exciting and more gratifying than victory such as I am planning on Saturday", says Lemieux.

So here we go fight fans! This is a fight that doesn't happen every Saturday night. It's a fight between two fighters that come forward. Two fighters that don't know how to step back. This is war!

Golovkin, (33-0, 30KOs), will battle IBF Middleweight World Champion David Lemieux, (34-2, 31KOs) in a Middleweight World Championship Title Unification bout on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the "Mecca of Boxing" Madison Square Garden and LIVE on HBO Pay-Per-View. Golovkin has knocked out an astounding 20 opponents in a row and will be making his 15th world championship defense. His 91% knockout percentage is the highest in the history of the middleweight division.

In the highly anticipated televised co-feature, Viloria, (36-4, 22KOs), will challenge
Consensus #1 Pound-For-Pound Fighter and WBC Flyweight World Champion, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, (43-0, 37KOs). A duel citizen of the United States and the

I used to see fighters working on with a heavy bag that has a photo of their upcoming opponent pasted on it. But on mitts? It's something new. Two identical photos of Gennady Golovkin were pasted on David Lemeiux mitts. 

Lemieux will face Golovkin for a middleweight title unification on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden.

Middleweight titlist David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) of Montreal, Quebec, Canada said that Golovkin has not faced a fighter like him before during a public media workout held at the historic Forum in Montreal today.

Lemieux is set to face middleweight multi-titlist Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in a highly anticipated title unification on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden.

"Golovkin has not faced a fighter like me before. I am an aggressive fighter and I am confident in my abilities. I feel that I will be successful on Oct. 17." said Lemeiux.

If you're going to look at it, yes, Golovkin may have not faced a fighter like Lemeiux before. Lemieux is the type of fighter who really comes forward and throws hard punches. But the question there is: how durable he is when hit also by power punches coming forward?

We all knew that both fighters are capable of knocking opponents out. I think the difference is that Golovkin really has power in both hands capable of knocking anyone in the division with just one punch, but Lemieux overwhelms an opponent with series of punches wearing them down before stopping them.

This is a very exciting fight and is interesting to watch.

If you do not know who the reigning IBO/WBA middleweight titlist Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is, then you will get to know him very well after you watch him take on IBF middleweight titlist David Lemieux in Madison Square Garden on October 17th. According to Andre Ward's trainer Virgil Hunter, when Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are long gone from the sport, GGG will be one of the fighters to carry the torch in keeping boxing in the forefront. I tend to agree with Hunter, but only for a short time frame, since Golovkin is 33 years of age.

Golovkin is 33-0 with 30 knockouts. The man has a 91% percent knockout ratio, the highest in boxing today. He was a silver medalist in the 2004 Olympic games and has never been dropped or knocked out in over 375 fights in the amateurs or the pros. GGG has an educated "Mexican style" where he pressures his opponents with subtle head movement, a stiff jab, and a left hook to the body that will fold anyone who dare expose a rib cage. GGG does not just stand in front of his opponents and throw careless punches. He has excellent positioning, footwork, and most of all power. But some say he has been carefully brought up in the professional ranks and has not fought any quality opponents in their prime. That changes against Lemieux.

Lemieux is the pride of Montreal, Quebec, Canada who holds a record of 34-2 with 31 knockouts. Lemieux also puts pressure on his opponents, ripping left and right hooks to the head and body, with the capability of knocking anyone out with either hand. Lemieux has won the Canadian Amateur Championships three times but was never interested in qualifying for the Olympics. Although during Lemieux's professional career, he has stepped up against quality opponents. Two of which were in his losses against Rubio and Alcine.

Like many power punchers, Lemieux has relied on his power to end fights quickly. With power comes exhaustion. With exhaustion comes vulnerability. With vulnerability comes getting hit. And that's exactly what happened to Lemieux in those losses. He loaded up his deadly hooks, got tired, and got stopped by Rubio and was defeated in a majority decision by Alcine.

In Lemieux's most recent fights, he has gotten better utilizing the jab, moving his head, and keeping his defense tight. Tactics that he had better use against Golovkin. In GGG's most recent fights, he has appeared vulnerable, getting tagged as he is standing and banging. Golovkin attributes that to the fans getting their money's worth. I really doubt he wanted to expose himself with the risk of getting knocked out.

In his latest interview, Golovkin, with his million dollar smile and jovial personality, expressed he is "scared" of his next opponent. Do I believe him? No, I don't. Lemieux better choose his punches wisely against the seasoned tactician and GGG better not open himself up to this young deadly puncher. Lemieux said he is going to shock the world come October 17th when he defeats Golovkin, becoming a multi titlist middleweight of the world. I believe the young lion will be stopped in 8 in this potential fight of the year candidate.

Canadian boxer David Lemieux promised that there will be blood on October 17 when he faces the Gennady Golovkin in the the ring at the Madison Square Garden.

"I respect Golovkin I think he is great fighter, but I'm not here to be his friend I am here to be is opponent. I promise you, there will be blood" says Lemieux.

Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) is a tremendous knockout artist who sport 31 wins by way of stoppage out of 34 victories in his ledger. He will be facing yet another knockout artist in Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) who is undefeated in 33 fights and had 30 wins inside the distance.

That being said, this is gonna be a must-see middleweight contest, wherein Lemieux already promised that there will blood. Who draws more blood still remains to be seen as both fighters have the power to knockout each other. This is gonna be painful for both fighter.

And yeah! This fight gets even more intriguing as it is being reported that the winner of this fight will face also the winner of Cotto-Canelo fight, which is another massive fight coming up.

Hard hitting undefeated middleweight Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) will face yet another hard hitting 160 pound titlist David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) for a unification bout on 17 October at the Madison Square Garden on HBO PPV.

Watching Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and Roman "Empire" Gonzalez perform against separate opponents was perhaps the best way to move on from Mayweather-Pacquiao disappointment.

With just two televised cards fulfilled my craving for action and entertainment for the sport of boxing.

Golovkin (33-0, 30KO's) put on an electrifying performance dropping the slick southpaw Willie Monroe Jr. several times, and ultimately stopped Monroe in Round 6 on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California on HBO Boxing. With the win Golovkin collected his 20th straight stoppage victory and 14th consecutive title defense.

Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KO's) also did his part and wowed US fans on his HBO debut, whacking out veteran Edgar Sosa (51-9, 30KO's) in two exciting rounds.

“I feel great. My special performance for you guys. Thank you for my team. Thank you for my opponent he bring beautiful drama show…” says Golovkin after the fight.

In the first round Golovkin was so accurate with his punches cracking Monroe with hard left hooks and straight rights. Monroe’s initial game plan was to outbox Golovkin from outside but had no success in doing so.

"I gave him chance. I said come on lets go, bring big drama show. Let's go", says Golovkin when Kellerman asked why Monroe managed to land big shots at him after dominating the first three rounds.

In the second, Golovkin blasted Monroe with a straight left hook to the head -- the sneakiest one-punch knockdown I've ever seen in boxing. Monroe was able to get up but then again went down from another shot. It looks like it will end from there. But Monroe to his credit was able to finish the round.

Monroe came back in the fourth round, fighting from inside forehead to forehead. He obviously changed his game plan and start connecting counters, backing up Golovkin a little bit.

In the fifth, Golovkin start working again unleashing power shots from the distance.

After a solid fifth, Golovkin came out with real bad intention in the sixth, pouring heavy shots that sent Monroe down for the third time.

Monroe was able to get up, but when referee Jack Reiss if he wants to continue. "I'm done", says Monroe.

After the fight, Golovkin calling out names. He wants the number one in the middleweight.

"I want unification! I want big big fights! Let's go, let's do it guys. Who is number one right now? Bring him now, I'll show you" exclaims Golovkin.

"I'm ready for Canelo… to Miguel great champion."

Golovkin has been punching his way to stardom knocking out opponents here and there.

The undefeated Golovkin (32-0, 29 KO’s) will defend his middleweight titles against Willie Monroe Jr. on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood California on HBO Boxing.

He has a stunning record of 19 consecutive wins by way of knockouts. He's been steamrolling contenders after contenders in the middleweight division. From Gabriel Rosado, to tough British MW contender Martin Murray, the Kazakh" good boyed" and laid them on the canvas for good. He whipped tough Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio to submission in two rounds making Rubio look like he dived on that fight.

Golovkin picked apart Daniele Geale, dropping several times before stopping in Round 3. Mathew Macklin perceived to be the toughest test for Golovkin at the buildup of the fight. But Golovkin stopped him in round three.
Heavy handed, Curtis Stevens a stiff test for Golovkin of how he'll handle the power of similarly heavy handed opponent. Golovkin handled Stevens's power. But Stevens can't handle Golovkin's power. Stevens retired in Round 8.

Too many tests, Golovkin pass them all with flying colors. I think he needs the final exams now. Golovkin, 33, needs it from a champion for the fight fans to know which level he is at right now.

We'll what we have is Willie Monroe Jr. Does Monroe have the toughest test paper? I doubt. But he might bring one subject from the entire exams -- craftiness aside from being a southpaw.

Monroe (19-0, 6 KO’s) has good amateur background. He has a slick southpaw style. He won ESPN's Boxcino middleweight tournament and handled Brandon Vera with ease in January.

My Prediction:

I think Golovkin's tremendous pressure will overwhelm Monroe. Golovkin will come in not just moving forward. He'll come in a systematic way that he'll not get hit easy with counters. He has good footwork. He'll come calm. He'll come in not head first but fist first. Not just fist first but two heavy fists coming in like pistons pumping up a huge bulldozer machine. Golovkin wins by knockout in the late rounds.

For tomorrow's HBO Boxing event, undefeated Gennady "GGG"Golovkin (32-0, 29 KO's) hit the scale and weighed one pound under the middleweight limit at 159 lbs. Willie Monroe Jr. (19-0, 6 KO's) tip the scale and weighed spot on the middleweight limit 160 lbs.

For the undercard, undefeated Roman Gonzalez (42-0, 36 KO's) weighed 111 lbs. and Edgar Sosa (51-8, 30 KO's) weighed 112.2 lbs. He was .2 pound above the limit.
