LOS ANGELES (July 17, 2026) — Golden Boy Promotions, Vergil Ortiz Jr., and Ortiz's manager, Rick Mirigian, announced today that they have reached an amicable settlement resolving all outstanding disputes. The agreement concludes the pending litigation and reaffirms the parties' shared commitment to delivering the biggest fights to boxing fans around the world.

"Our relationship with Vergil has spanned more than a decade, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into one of the sport's premier fighters," said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. "We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together with Vergil Jr., Rick Mirigian, and the rest of Team Ortiz to deliver the biggest fights possible for boxing fans."

“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight. My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”

Under the terms of the agreement, all claims between the parties have been resolved. Additional terms of the settlement remain confidential.

Golden Boy Promotions' statement on jury decision over All-Star Boxing

Golden Boy Promotion got a "favorable" decision over All-Star Boxing with regards to contract issue with Mexican Star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

However Canelo was ordered to pay $8.5 million to All-Star Boxing for an amount determined as "unjust enrichment."

Below is the full statement from Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo's boxing promoter.

"We are extremely pleased that not only did the jury find that no contract ever existed between Canelo and All-Star Boxing, but issued a judgment against All-Star Boxing and ordered them to pay Golden Boy's substantial legal fees.

Over the last five-plus years, many questioned why we wouldn't just settle the case before trial. The answer is simple: We would not be extorted. It was clear from the beginning that neither Canelo Alvarez nor Golden Boy Promotions had acted inappropriately in any way. We are grateful that the jury was able to see that.

However, it is absurd to think that All-Star Boxing provided anywhere near that amount of value that the jury awarded under a separate claim. We will appeal this part of the decision, and are confident we will win, just as we did on the contract dispute."

Outside of appealing the financial damages, we now look forward to putting this episode behind us and working with Canelo Alvarez to continue his meteoric rise though the boxing ranks."

As 25-year-old sensation prepares for November 21 showdown with Miguel Cotto for lineal middleweight championship, Canelo and Golden Boy agree to continue pursuing the best fights for the fans long into the future.

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 11, 2015) - Golden Boy Promotions today announced that Mexican superstar and former WBC and WBA Super Welterweight World Champion
Canelo Álvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) has re-signed with the company, agreeing to a multi-fight, multi-year contract extension.

"I am loyal, it's part of my character and that's why I am extending my contract with Golden Boy Promotions,"said Álvarez. "Golden Boy Promotions knows how to build a fighter and elevate him to a world stage as they have done with me and continue to do with many others. I look forward to working with Golden Boy throughout my career."

Álvarez, a super welterweight knockout artist known for his tremendous punching power, made his pro debut in 2005 at 15-years-old and quickly became one of the most popular prizefighters in the world. His exciting fighting style and reputation for taking on all comers has captured the attention of fans all around the globe.

GOLDEN BOY FILES SUIT AGAINST JHONNY GONZALEZ AND PROMOCIONES DEL PUEBLO

LOS ANGELES, (March 27, 2015) Boxer Jhonny Gonzalez and his Mexican promoter Promociones del Pueblo conspired with manager/promoter Al Haymon to violate Golden Boy's exclusive rights to promote Gonzalez, a bombshell complaint filed today against the fighter and the promotional company contends.

Despite Golden Boy's repeated attempts, Gonzalez, Promociones del Pueblo and Haymon repeatedly refused to put on tomorrow night's fight between Gonzalez and Gary Russell, Jr., until they cut Golden Boy out of the process, clearly violating the agreement between the boxer and promoter.

"Golden Boy's contract with Jhonny Gonzalez couldn't be clearer - the company has exclusive promotional rights for two years or four fights, and neither of those milestones has been reached to date," said Golden Boy Spokesman Stefan Friedman. "Furthermore, the motive behind the defendants adamant and longtime refusal to match Gonzalez with Gary Russell, Jr is now plain for the world to see. We will vigorously fight to ensure our contract is enforced."

Golden Boy is seeking damages of no less than $1 million and for the court to enforce the company's existing contract with Gonzalez.

According to the complaint:

"In December 2013, Golden Boy entered into a written agreement with Gonzalez and DPP wherein Golden Boy obtained the exclusive right to promote Gonzalez's professional boxing matches throughout the world for a period of two years beginning on the first bout conducted pursuant to the agreement, or four fights, whichever comes first (the "Agreement"). The Agreement further provides that Gonzalez will not take part in any professional boxing match prior to the first bout conducted pursuant to the Agreement.

In August, 2014, Golden Boy proposed that Gonzalez fight Gary Russell, Jr., a promising featherweight boxer in either November or December of that year. DPP initially ignored this proposal and then rejected it, preferring to have Gonzalez fight a lesser opponent, Jose Arce, in Mexico in October.

Thereafter, Golden Boy continued to try and find appropriate fights for Gonzalez. However, DPP consistently refused the fights proposed by Golden Boy for Gonzalez.

In February, 2015, it became clear why DPP was refusing all of the fights proposed by Golden Boy for Gonzalez. DPP was conspiring with Russell's manager/promoter, Al Haymon, to put together a fight between Gonzalez and Russell in which Golden Boy would not be involved."

David Lemieux signs exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions

Following a crowd-pleasing fight debut in American soil, Canadian David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KO's) signed an exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. In a press release, Lemieux said that he is "very pleased" and "excited" with GBP's association.

"I am very pleased and excited with my association with Golden Boy Promotions," said David Lemieux. "I am ready to face the best and this is the mission that I give to Camille Estephan at Eye of the Tiger Management and Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez at Golden Boy Promotions."

Lemieux scored a knockdown in the third round and eventually won a technical knockout in the tenth round against Gabriel Rosado last year. Rosado, a known bleeder, left eye was swollen shut, forcing the ringside doctor to stop the contest.

In order to settle a lawsuit against GBP's former CEO, Richard Shaefer, GBP surrendered promotional rights to Haymon-advised fighters. Golden Boy Promotions tried to strengthened their pool of fighters by signing international and local talents.

I think signing Lemieux could somehow help fortified the breached Golden Boy banner.

Golden Boy Promotion literally wins some and loses some fighters under its umbrella.

In a recent press release, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotion announced that: "they are pushing to make 2015 its best year yet, by adding local California talent and signing international talents".

Local talents include; Abraham Lopez, Roy Tapia, Christian Gonzalez, Emilio Sanchez, Jesus Ivan Delgado and Nick Arce. International talents include, Japanese Yoshihiro “Maestrito” Kamegai (25-2-1, 22 KOs) and Filipino Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KOs).

But late Friday, Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole reported that Golden Boy Promotion “settled its lawsuit” with former CEO Richard Schaefer. With the settlement, GBP “surrendered” its promotional rights to some of its top boxers who are advised by Haymon; welterweight Adrien Broner and Danny Garcia were mentioned.

Although GPB retained promotional rights to other Haymon-advised fighter, but it’s obvious that the talents he lost outweighed those he acquired. But anyhow, I see it as a good thing for boxing and for those personalities involved as the strife between former friends finally settled.

It seems to me that 2015 had a good start, as top boxing personalities having conflicts in 2014 chose to move forward this year. Parties involved with their respective 2014 conflicts now settling their issues to move on and prepare for a good 2015 start.

Late Friday, undefeated super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KO's) also tweeted with a hash tag “#NextChapter” saying that he is happy to be part of Roc Nation. He’s been long sidelined due to promotional conflicts with his late promoter Dan Goossen. With this development, I think we will see more of Andre Ward. I hope it’s never too late for him.

Meanwhile, speaking of Roc Nation, Gary Shaw announced also on Friday that he officially joined Jay Z’s boxing division.

Fighting out of Tokyo, Japan, 32-year-old Yoshihiro "Maestrito" Kamegai (25-2-1, 22 KOs) built a stellar reputation in Asia for years, winning regional titles at 140 and 147 pounds. But it was a fight he lost to Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero in June of 2014 that made him a star on the international scene, as the two engaged in a Fight of the Year candidate. On Dec. 13, Kamegai stopped Oscar "El Tigre" Godoy in four rounds.

Born in Cebu, Philippines, 27-year-old San Diegan Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KOs) has lived up to his nickname "No Mercy" when it comes to opponents, as he's won 28 of his 30 professional bouts. A former world title challenger looking to get another shot at the lightweight title, Gesta has won two bouts straight, most recently halting Luis "El Vampiro" Arceo in seven rounds.

27-year old knock out artists, Gilberto "Flaco" Gonzalez (23-3, 19 KOs) from Distrito Federal, Mexico, has been undefeated since 2013 and has defeated all seven of his opponents by knock out. His most recent fight, against Puerto Rico's Jeffery Fontanez, in Cancun, Mexico was an all-out war. Gonzalez knocked down Fontanez once in the fourth round and twice in the fifth, resulting in a satisfying win for Gonzalez and stripping Fontanez of his undefeated status.

La Puente, Calif. native, Abraham Lopez (17-0, 12 KOs) has been on a hot streak since his professional debut in 2008. Undefeated, Lopez has won twelve of his bouts via knockout, and is looking to continue the momentum and get back in the ring in 2015.

A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, 20-year-old Antonio "La Joya" Gutierrez(17-0-1, 7 KOs) is in his fourth year as a professional, and after learning his trade on the tough Mexican scene, the promising middleweight made his United States debut in October of 2014, winning by majority decision against veteran Dashon "Fly Boy" Johnson. In his most recent bout on Dec. 13 13, Gutierrez defeated Erick "El Brujo" Mireles.

East Los Angeles' Roy "Pitbull" Tapia (10-0-1, 5 KOs) has been in the gym since he was seven years old, following in the footsteps of his father, a former professional boxer. Tapia made his debut in 2011, and in his most recent bout on Nov. 13, the unbeaten 23-year-old featherweight scored the biggest win of his career over 50-fight veteran Luis "Titi" Maldonado.

A professional since 2013, Buena Park, Calif. knockout artist Christian "Chimpa" Gonzalez (8-0, 8 KOs) is a boxing legacy, his brother is the former WBC Featherweight World Champion Alejandro "Cobrita" Gonzalez. He has destroyed all willing to face him thus far in his career, winning each bout by knockout. Gonzalez has shown that he is a power puncher to watch in 2015 and beyond.

Now making his home in Los Angeles, 27-year-old Colombia native Oscar "Jaguar" Negrete (7-0, 3 KOs) won bronze medals as an amateur for his country in the 2006 South American, Central American and Caribbean Games before turning professional in 2013. His success has not slowed down since then, with three of his bouts ending by way of knockout.

Los Angeles undefeated featherweight Emilio Sanchez (5-0, 4 KOs) can do it all in the ring, making him a natural to join the Golden Boy Promotions squad of future starts. A professional+ since 2013, Sanchez won his first three bouts via first-round knockout, and he has continued to impress with 2014 victories over Jonathan Ramos and Juan Alvarado.

Jesus Ivan Delgado (3-0, 1 KO) of Los Angeles, Calif. is a 24-year-old prospect on the fast track to big things at 135 pounds. A favorite at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, Calif., where he has already made three appearances, Delgado is coming off a shutout decision win over Rick Quevedo on November 13.

A two-time Olympian and a two time Pan American Games medalist for his home country of Brazil, Everton Lopes won 240 bouts as an amateur, earning gold at the 2011 World Amateur Championships and bronze in 2013. In 2015, the talented 26-year-old southpaw will make his professional debut, and he will have a nation behind him as he pursues a world title.

Fighting out of the Westside Boxing Club in Los Angeles, 18-year-old featherweight Nick Arce (1-0, 1 KO) is a former amateur standout who entered the professional boxing world in style in Nov. 13, of 2014 with a fourth round knockout of Adalbert "Kiki" Valenzuela.

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 23, 2014)-Golden Boy Promotions Founder Oscar de la Hoya, HBO Sports PresidentKen Hershman, and superstar boxer Canelo Álvarez today announced a major new agreement to showcase the fan-favorite fighter's matches on HBO Sports.

"For all of my career, I have wanted to fight on HBO for one main reason-I believe it will allow more of my fans to see me in action," said Álvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). "Today marks a huge milestone for me, and I look forward to a long and successful partnership with HBO."

Boxing superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez, Oscar de la Hoya of Golden Boy Promotion and HBO Sports President Ken Hershman will announce a newly signed deal. The deal was to air Canelo's future fights on HBO network.

Yes you read it right! Canelo Alvarez's upcoming fights will be back on HBO -- the network where Canelo (44-1-1, KO 31) started back in the day.

The announcement will be held at the Golden Boy Promotions headquarters that begins at 11:30 AM PT today, 23 September 2014.

After a divorce in 2013, HBO and Golden Boy Promotions got married again and will enter a "long-term commitment".

In 2013, HBO announced that they will no longer air fights promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. So, whatever differences the two companies had before finally ironed out and they will now work together again.

The 24 year old Canelo is the perfect fit as the new poster boy for HBO. And replace Manny Pacquaio who has few fights remaining in his career, as HBO's top fighter.

So, what do you think this announcement would mean for Showtime?

Floyd Mayweather's decision last year to signed a 6-fight mega deal with Showtime was a major hurdle of the network.

But Mayweather who is already 38 years old has few fights left also. He completed already four fights and has two fights left in the contract. He might consider it a career after his contractual obligation. A finale fight maybe possible or maybe two to four fights in my opinion before Floyd hang those gloves for good.

So, Showtime will no longer have their flagship fighter most probably in 2016. But that is still too far to figure out. And for sure there will be emerging stars out there.

But what is certain, in my opinion, is that: what will be left for Showtime is Haymon's "big-names-in-the-same card-different-opponents-bullshit".

Hopkins-Kovalev set on Nov 8 at Boardwalk Hall

In a press released from Golden Boy Promotions, Hopkins vs Kovalev will takes place at the Boardwalk Hall in Altlantic City on Saturday, 8th Nov. 2014.

Since the August 4th official announcement of the Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins vs. Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev light heavyweight title unification fight, the boxing world has been waiting and wondering when and where the two will meet and put their respective titles on the line. The wait is over as Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events announced today that the fall's most anticipated boxing event will take place Saturday, Nov. 8 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ live on HBO World Championship Boxing.

I believed that this is the first time wherein a Golden Boy exclusively promoted fighter in Bernard Hopkins to air fight back on HBO. Earlier, Golden Boy Promotion top man Oscar De La Hoya told that the so called "cold war" in boxing has ended.

Canelo wins split decision over Lara

The 23 year old, Saul Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO) wins split decision over Cuban slickster Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KO). Judge Roth scored it 115-113 for Lara, Moretti 115-113 for Canelo and Martinez 117-111 for Canelo.

It was a close fight that if you have to score; the outcome will depend on which four components in scoring you will give weight. It is a debatable fight of who "really" wins. Judges tends to give weight to one or two of these four components in scoring; ring generalship, effective aggressiveness, clean punching and defense. But judges are supposed to equally put in mind those above factors in assigning their scores. But some judges favor certain characteristics.

With the above being said, I believed judge Roth favor ring generalship, Moretti and Martinez favor effective aggressiveness. I try to keep in mind those components equally in my mind and I have it a draw.

Lets talk about the fight

As expected, Canelo was in pursuit for Lara from the opening bell down to the final round as Lara used the entire ring. Canelo looked composed and not frustrated, although when he missed, he missed wildly, catching nothing but air. He was inclined to target Lara's body, hoping this would slow down Lara. And he connected most his punches to the body. However, Lara was able to maintain his footwork and movement around the ring.

"The body shots connected but they didn't have any force. I still have no respect for him. I'm asking for a rematch. One hundred percent I'll do the same and we'll win again." says Lara after the fight. But Canelo's body work did bother Lara especially in the fourth and fifth round. Lara signaled to the referee that Canelo's punches-to-the-body were below the belt line. But I think those punchers were good.

Lara on the other hand, was able to catch Canelo clean upstairs, causing welt around Canelo's right eye. At times, he made Canelo looked extremely bad, making Canelo missed wildly. Lara was upset of the decision and thought he won. "One hundred percent I won this fight. I was controlling the rounds and, worse, I made him look bad in front of his fans. People know I won this fight." Lara said.

Canelo said that he came to fight. "I came to fight, I didn't come to run here," Canelo said. "You don't win by running. You win by hitting. He does have a great jab and he moves around, but you don't win a fight that way. You don't run."

About a possible rematch.

Canelo told (maybe jokingly, or seriously) that he will give Lara a rematch if he learns how to fight. "When he learns how to fight then I'll give him the rematch." Canelo said.

The fighters for the much anticipated junior middleweight clash between Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez and Cuba's Erislandy Lara finally arrived at the venue and made their Grand Arrival at the MGM Grand Hotel.

Here are what the fighters had said during the Grand Arrivals:

"Erislandy Lara insulted me and my country. He insulted my ability to box, and I take that seriously. This is more than just a fight for me. On Saturday, I'm not only fighting for my honor, I'm fighting for the pride of my country.

"We're ready to fight and I'm so happy to see all these people anxious for the day to finally arrive.

"The fans are my motivation to keep winning and competing at a high level.

"There's a lot more of my story to be written so I am completely focused on Saturday night.

After a stellar amateur career, East Los Angeles' Frankie "Pitbull" Gomez (17-0, 13 KOs) has made a steady rise in the ranks of the 140-pound weight class since turning professional in 2010. At just 22 years of age, sweet science insiders already expect him to make his move into the title picture within the next 12 months. To do that, he has to follow up his last four victories over Pavel Miranda (KO1), Lanard Lane (W10), Prince Doku Jr. (TKO1) and Orlando Vazquez (KO2) with another impressive showing against Paris, his toughest test to date on July 25.

A native of the boxing-rich city of Detroit, 26-year-old Vernon Paris (28-1, 16 KOs) has one thing on his mind heading into his July 25 bout with Frankie Gomez - handing the Californian his first professional defeat. And if anyone has the talent and desire to do it, it's Paris, a former USBA champion whose only loss came against multi-division former World Champion Zab Judah in 2012. Since then, Paris has won two fights straight and he's looking for three at Fantasy Springs.

Twenty-two-year-old Tijuana native Ivan "Nino Maravilla" Morales (25-0, 14 KOs) is a top Mexican prospect that hopes to add to his nation's rich boxing history by becoming a world champion in the coming years. While he's still young, his efforts thus far have shown him to be a mature fighter with a seemingly endless list of positive attributes. Coming off of a 10-round win over 40-fight veteran Jose Alfredo Tirado in April, Morales heads to Southern California later this month for his third fight in the United States against an opponent to be determined.

Boxing media, fans rant on Garcia-Salka

I'm thinking Danny Garcia is fighting Lamont Peterson. But no! They are not fighting each other. And boxing media, fans rant about it.

Undefeated and unified light welterweight champion Danny Garcia will be back in the ring against little known or shall I say "absolutely unknown" Rod Salka in a triple header along with IBF 140-pound titleholder Lamont against, I think another also unknown Edgar "El Chamaco" Santana and Brooklyn's own Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs will challenge Australia's Jarrod "Left Jab" Fletcher for the vacant WBA World Middleweight Championship.

However the real eyebrow-raiser here is Garcia who fought a fighter who is not even in the top ten or even top 30 of the 140 division, because he's from lightweight division :)

"I can't wait until August 9^th. Its going to be a stacked card, and August 9^th is going to be my night." Garcia said during the press conference on Wednesday. But it's very obvious that he owns the fight the moment this fight is sealed. I hate to underestimate Salka. I don't even know him. But he should earn his spot before having a shot at the world title. What those rank number one down to number 10 will feel?

"I'm coming to work. I've been working really hard, and my whole boxing career I've worked to put myself in position to fight for a championship or a title." Salka said on the same presscon.

SAN DIEGO (July 2, 2014) - Five days before he heads to Las Vegas, popular Mexican superstar and former WBC and WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez participated in a media workout Tuesday before dozens of TV cameras, print and internet reporters, bloggers and boxing videographers at the House of Boxing Training Center.

"I've had a great training camp here in San Diego and I'm ready to go,'' said Canelo (43-1-1, 31 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, who faces former Cuban national amateur standout and current WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Erislandy "The American Dream" Lara(19-1-2, 12 KOs)in the 12-round main event of "HONOR & GLORY: Canelo vs. Lara,'' a highly anticipated four-fight SHOWTIME PPV telecast Saturday, July 12, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

"Every camp is different because we're always training for a different opponent. And, as always, I've worked very hard in this one. But Lara has said so many things behind my back and on social media for such a long time now that, yes, this fight is and has become personal.

"He's a good fighter but he talks a lot. He's offended me. I'm going to have an answer for everything he has said. I'm going to shut him up once and for all.''

Tuesday, Canelo spent more than two hours at the House of Boxing. He worked up a heavy sweat during a spirited, 75-minute-plus workout that consisted of jumping rope, shadow-boxing, smacking the heavy bag, hitting the double-ended bag and working the speed bag. Before and after, he did interviews, signed autographs, posed for photos and mingled with his many fans.

Canelo Continued... (On whether winning is enough)

"I always want to win in spectacular fashion. That is my goal every time I step into the ring. I want to win spectacularly on July 12. But the most important thing is for me to win. I can't promise a knockout but if it comes, it comes.''

(On why he's not fighting for southpaw Lara's 154-pound title)

"Titles are always nice, but for me this fight is bigger than a title fight. This fight is for my honor and glory to bring to the Mexican people. It is a fight for honor and it is a fight that people wanted to see. My fans are the best and I want to thank them for all of their support.''

"There is no extra pressure on me for this fight. I'm as confident and relaxed as I always am. I'm prepared for whatever Lara has to offer. At this level you have to be able to adapt and make the necessary adjustments. I know I'm coming to fight and I know he's coming to fight. After that, whatever happens, happens.''

"Even though they didn't win, I thought they did a good job.''

JOSE "CHEPO" REYNOSO, Canelo's Trainer

"Canelo has a much different mindset going into this fight, his attitude is much better. His pride was hurt because of all of the smack Lara has been talking. He is totally focused on July 12, and wants to punish Lara thoroughly. Canelo looks at Lara as an obnoxious little child that needs to be put into his place.

"We train every day of the week except Sunday. He spars Monday, Wednesday and Friday. San Diego has been much more peaceful and tranquil compared to past training camp locations (Santa Monica, Big Bear). His gym is in the same place where he lives so everything is very convenient. The only time he leaves his house is in the morning when he goes on his run. Besides that he is very focused and able to train in the comforts of his own home."

EDDIE REYNOSO, Canelo's Co-Trainer

"After the last fight we only took 15 days off and then we went right back into training. We have had a great training camp that I believe will work in our favor.

"The biggest difference from this training camp compared to others is that the fighter we are opposing has completely different styles. One is a righty and one is a lefty, so we must train for our opponent specifically. One is more courageous and goes to the front and the other retracts and pushes back.

"Going into the Lara fight we have seen that Lara defends a lot and gives up his offensive moves. He is always on the defensive and we must attach him. Canelo has his combinations and strength that will work in his favor. Canelo just needs to win a decision; he doesn't necessarily need a knockout to show the world what he is capable of. This is Canelo's most important fight and all he is focusing on."

OSCAR DE LA HOYA

"It's going to be a great fight, I don't want to predict anything. Lara has been doing a lot of trash talking that has been fueling Canelo. I see him at an entirely different level and it's exactly where he should be. He's at a level of determination where he really wants to get this guy. It's personal.

"Canelo is a young fighter who is improving at a rapid pace as every fight goes on. The fact that Lara has made this fight personal, it gives you extra motivation that you need to train harder, run faster and do everything almost perfect so that you can go into the ring and destroy your opponent.

"The fact this fight is personal, it is the first time that I have seen Canelo with that extra determination. He has looked perfect in training camp. He wants to destroy Lara. This is exactly where he needs to be. I can see it in his eyes, his focus says it all.

"The presence of social media has taken this fight to an entirely new level. When you have a fighter like Canelo who a lot of people follow, then social media is a key component to make sure that this PPV fight will be a guaranteed success. There is much anticipation leading up to the fight, I expect the MGM Grand Garden Arena to be completely sold out.

On Tuesday, 01 July, Saul Canelo Alvarez will be in San Diego to hold a media workout for his upcoming pay-per-view fight against Erislandy Lara on 12 July. Oscar De La Hoya honored by California lawmakers

Recognition follows De La Hoya's recent induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-June 26, 2014-California Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez and State Senator Kevin de León today honored Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya for his many accomplishments in boxing and business, and contributions to the California community. Assembly Speaker Emeritus Pérez and Senator de León recognized De La Hoya from the senate and assembly floors during a presentation at the California State Capitol.

"I am pleased to join my colleagues in honoring Oscar De La Hoya for his many contributions to the sport of boxing, and for being a strong example of what can happen when one works hard to succeed, regardless of their background," said Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles). "We are proud to celebrate his accomplishments, especially his recent induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, as well as an athlete, businessman, community leader, Latino and Californian."

"Oscar De La Hoya is an incredible athlete who has never forgotten where he came from," said Sen. Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles). "He has given back so much to the community in East Los Angeles, and his continued success following his athletic career serves as an inspiration for all Californians."

De La Hoya thanked his family, friends, fans, and community in brief remarks from the California State Senate and Assembly floors following the recognition presentation.

"I'm honored to receive this recognition in my home state of California," De La Hoya said during the presentation. "I'm proud to represent my hometown of East Los Angeles today. I wouldn't be standing here without the continued support of my family, friends, mentors, and amazing fans."

De La Hoya, known as "The Golden Boy," was born to Mexican immigrants in Montebello, California. Raised in a family that included amateur and professional boxers, he began boxing at the age of six. De La Hoya is one of the most popular and talented athletes in the history of boxing, having won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics at 17 years old and 10 world titles in six different weight classes. He was inducted in to the International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 8, 2014 in Canastota, NY as part of an All Star class that included rival Felix "Tito" Trinidad and undefeated Super Middleweight World Champion, Joe Calzaghe.

De La Hoya invested back in his community of East Los Angeles following his success in the ring. In 1995 the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation was created to bring a better quality of life to thousands of people in East Los Angeles. The Foundation supports the Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School, and the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center and Oscar De La Hoya Children's Medical Center at White Memorial Medical Center. The Foundation also supports numerous after-school programs that guide young people toward leading positive lives and away from gang violence, juvenile delinquency, and substance abuse.

In addition to boxing, De La Hoya is an accomplished businessman and singer. He established Los Angeles-based Golden Boy Promotions in 2002 and became the first Hispanic to own a national boxing promotional company. In 2000, he released his first album, in English and Spanish, which topped Latin dance charts and had a single, 'Ven a Mi,' that was nominated for a GRAMMY award.
