ALA Promotions' Pinoy Pride Series on its 35th installment will be back at its home base in Cebu for another spectacular fight card. Junior featherweight standout "Prince" Albert Pagara (25-0, 18 KO) will headline the card against Nicaragua's Yesner Talavera at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino on 27 February. The event will be telecast by Philippine giant network ABS-CBN.

The 21-year-old Filipino has been touted as the next big thing in Philippine boxing. He's been undefeated for 25 fights, 18 fights inside the distance. Pagara has decent power in both hands. He's been impressive in his American debut, knocking out William Gonzalez in Round 6 at the Stub Center, Carson in October 2015. I'm expecting him to challenge for a world title this year.

It was also ALA promotion's US debut after a successful international venture held first in Dubai in September 2014.

Pagara knocked out Jesus Antonio Rios in Round 1 during Pinoy Pride's return to Dubai in August 2015.

Meanwhile, Talavera (15-3-1, 4 KO) has never been stopped in his three career defeats. This will be his first fight outside of his native Nicaragua.

Now on it's 35th installment, the successful Pinoy Pride series will be back at their home turf giving the Cebuano fans back their fighters. Below is the full list of under-cards.

Jason Pagara scores three knockdowns in route to TKO victory
Jason Pagara made quick work on Nicaraguan Santos Benavides for their 10 round non-title fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Pagara scored three knockdowns in round two before referee Referee Raul Caiz Sr. waived to stopped the contest.

Pagara landed combos to the head that sent Benavides to the floor for the first time. Another crushing right to the body dropped Benavides again. Pagara's left-right combination to the chin put the icing on the cake. Benavides visited the canvas again for good. The official time of the stoppage 2:52 seconds mark of round 2.

I think it's time to seriously step up the level of opponents for Jason Pagara as he continues to dominate mediocre opponents.

Donnie Nietes is the longest-reigning Filipino boxing champion spanning 8 years. But that span of time being a champion he never had a fight in the US. A fight in the US is an ultimate dream of a non-US-resident professional boxer. In the US most big-time boxing card happens.

Not only Nietes will fight first time in the US. Pagara brothers Jason and Albert, and Mark Magsayo will also debut on US soil. They will fight separate opponents.

Nietes (36-1-4, 21Kos) will headline Pinoy Pride 33 versus Mexican Juan Alejo. Although Mexico shares a border with the US, it's also Alejo’s (21-3, 13KOs) first fight in the US. What a coincidence!

Undefeated Albert Pagara (24-0-0, 17 KOs) faces KO artist William Gonzalez (27-5, 23 KOs) of Nicaragua. They will battle for Pagara’s intercontinental junior featherweight title. While his brother Jason will face Santos Benavides for 10 rounds or less in a non-title fight.

ALA Promotions in association with ABS-CBN Sports promotes Pinoy Pride 33. It's also ALA promotions' and ABS-CBN Sports' first time to stage a fight card in the US.

Michael  Aldequer's successful Pinoy Pride series originates in Cebu, Philippines. He found tremendous success in the Philippines and in the middle east. Particularly Dubai.

With so much of first time and outcome might be uncertain. But what is certain is that: Pinoy boxers will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in the US boxing ring.

I expect Pinoy boxers to give their very best. This fight will be their ticket to better opportunities and bigger paydays.

Nietes talked about betting pound-for-pound new kingpin Roman Gonzalez if given a chance. So, Nietes need not only win but should look impressive. And get past Alejo for a possible fight with Roman. Gonzalez will also fight on the same night at a different venue. He will face Filipino-American Brian Viloria.

But well, who knows if Viloria bets Roman, it might set up a fight with Nietes (could be unlikely even if Viloria wins as this two sparred in preparation for their separate opponents). Just exploring possibilities here...

For Albert and Jason Pagara, and Mark Magsayo, it is their time to impress the American fans. If they will come out victorious in a spectacular manner; big fights await.

Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, (35-1-4, 21 KO’s), longest reigning Filipino champion, defended his junior flyweight title against Mexican Gilberto Parra. The Mexican was stop after Round 9. Parra (19-3, 17 KO's) was not allowed to answer the bell to begin Round 10. He suffered a nasty cut below his left eye from a Nietes’ solid right hand.

Upon the advice of ringside physician, referee Jack Reiss stopped the contest.

Before the stoppage, Nietes dropped Parra in Round 8. He landed a hard right to the head that sent Parra down. The crafty Mexican was able to beat the count and continue with wobbled legs. He’s hanging on to dear life until the end of Round 8, as Nietes was so determine to finish the challenger.

But Parra to his credit, used lateral movements, reach advantage and evaded finishing blows from the champion.

During the post-fight conference, ALA boss Michael Aldequer says that Donnie Nietes will face Francisco Rodriquez on July 4 in Cebu. And already had preliminary talks with Zanfer Promotions about an Estrada fight.

Nonito Donaire scores an impressive TKO victory over William Prado


In the co-feature bout of the night, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (34-3, 21 KO’s) scored a second round knockout victory over William Prado (22-4-1, 15 KO’s) of Brazil. In the first round, it is obvious Prado had no match with Donaire’s fire power. Although Prado was moving forward to Donaire, but was not throwing any significant punches.

In Round 2, Donaire opened up with series of haymakers from his vaunted left hook. He wobbled Prado and didn’t waste time to finish the business at hand. He pummeled Prado to the ropes until referee Bruce Mc Tavish stepped in to save Prado from further damage.

Donaire, decided to move back down in weight to 122 pounds for this fight after a knockout defeat over much bigger and stronger Nicholas Walters at featherweight.

With the win, Donaire aims another title fight before the year ends at 122 -- a division whom he dominated in 2012 and named fighter of the year, winning all four fights in the same year.
In an interview, Donaire called out Leo Santa. And also said he's open for a rematch with master tactician Guillermo Rigondeaux.
“I’m all in” says Nonito Donaire when ask about a possible rematch with 122 pound division champion--Guillermo Rigondeaux or a showdown with fast-rising star Leo Santa Cruz.

Rigondeaux is the 122 pound world champion according to the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.

Rigondeaux defeated Donaire when they first met in April 2013.

Albert Pagara retires Rodolfo Hernandez after Round 4


Albert Pagara (23-0, 16 KO’s) maintained unbeaten record by preventing Rodolfo Hernandez (26-6-1, 24 KO’s) to leave his corner to start the fifth stanza. According to Hernandez's corner, he injured his hand and is unable to continue.

Pagara has superior fire power over the Mexican who was knockdown in the first round.

According to Aldequer, Pagara will begin training in the States in preparation for a fight in Dubai on June 12 against an opponent yet to be named.

The highly successful Pinoy Pride series takes a giant hurdle this weekend. Pinoy Pride 27th installment will takes place in the international stage. The first of its kind and it will be in Dubai.

ALA Boxing mainstays Genesis Servania, "King" Arthur Villanueva and Rey Boom Boom Baustista will be up against their Latino counterpart.

This boxing event dubbed "Duel in Dubai" will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center. The Filipino Channel (TFC) has been promoting this card in the Middle East. TFC is part of ABS-CBN TV network, the biggest TV network in the Philippines. Through its vast subscribers, this event gets a lot of leverage in exposure.

There are around 2.5 million Filipinos around the Middle East especially in the GCC area.

In Dubai, there are 931, 562 Filipinos.

If Mr. Tony Aldequer's venture in Dubai will come out successful, I think there will more boxing card coming up in the future. As a boxing fan, I'm willing to spend my hard earned dinar. And I will travel to Dubai if world class fights will be staged there.

Well, for the first Pinoy Pride International show in Dubai gives us world rated boxers. And here they are: The Pinoy Pride 27 fight card in Dubai.

Genesis Servania (24-0-0, 10KO) vs. Jose 'Matador' Cabrera (22-4-2, 10KO) 12 Rounds Super bantamweight as the main event.

"King" Arthur Villanueva (25-0-0, 14KO) vs. Henry 'El Crespo' Maldonado (19-3-0, 14KO) 12 Rounds, junior bantamweight, as co-featured bout.

Rey 'Boom-Boom' Bautista (35-3-0, 25KO) vs. Juan Jose 'Piquet' Martinez (19-1-0, 15KO) 10 Rounds super featherweight.

Pasig City, Manila -- Pinoy Pride 24 results: The successful Pinoy Pride Series returned at the Solaire Resort and Casino. The 24th series dubbed as "THE FUTURE IS NOW", which headlined Genesis Servania against former WBA super flyweight world champion Alexander "El Explosivo" Muñoz of Venezuela, was again another successful event brought to us by ALA Promotions.

After searching almost all night long for one lights-out-punch, still undefeated Genesis Servania (24-0, 10 KO's) found it only in the 12th and final round. Servania landed an overhand right that sent Alexander Muñoz crashing to the floor with 38 seconds left in the final round.


Muñoz was able to get up, but referee Tapdasan had seen enough and waived it off to save Muñoz from further beating. The official time of the stoppage: 2:22 in Round 12. Muñoz (36-6, 28 KO's) went down twice. He went down after he was tagged by a stiff right hand in Round 2. And he took a knee after absorbing a cracking left hook to the body in the Round 9.


Prior to that, in Round 8, Servania suffered a deep and nasty cut over the left eye because of accidental head butt. It seemed Munoz is in control of the fight, but the irony is that: in the dying seconds Munoz thought the round was over and touch gloves with Servania. But Servania answered him with left and right to the head that momentarily stunned and somewhat hurt Muñoz as the bell sounded. 


With the win, Servania could be in for a world title shot.



"Prince" Albert Pagara KO 1 Isack Junior


"Prince" Albert Pagara (19-0, 13 KO's), according to fight commentators Ronnie Natanielz and Ed Tolentino, Pagara's "title" could be alleviated from "Prince" to "King" after a stellar performance, knocking out Isack Junior (22-5-2, 8 KO's) of Indonesia, in the very first round. The Indonesian laid flat on his back from a right hand to the body and was counted out by the referee. The official time, 2:41. In an interview with Dyan Castellejo, Pagara said that he "studied" the style of his opponent through "YouTube".

Arthur Villanueva now improved his record to 25-0, 14 KO's, was in a hell of a fight against late substitute Fernando Aguilar of Mexico. Aguilar (9-7-0, 1 KO's) showed the heart of a Mexican warrior giving Villanueva a lot of trouble. After suffering a cut in Round 3, Aguilar went for a broke in Round 4 won that round convincingly. However the controlled and consistent aggression of Villanueva carried the night and won a unanimous decision to the tune of 94-93, 95-92, and 96-91 on the judges' scorecards.

On another note "look-alike" of Coach Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire were at ringside enjoying the action.
