Two fighters with come-forward style will clash tonight, as Brandon Rios boxing Diego Gabriel Chaves at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To make it straightforward and without beating around the bush, I can say that: this is an entertaining fight without any significant outcome to the current welterweight landscape. Just pure entertainment. If you love watching two people punching in the head -- this is the fight you are looking for. This is a match-up of two people willing to trade punches without taking a step back.

Brandon Rios (31-2-1, 23 KO) has develop his brand of boxing. He's known for his all out aggression, hit-me-I'll-hit-you-back-with-a-smile style. But in his last two bouts wherein he lost to Mike Alvarado in a rematch and to Manny Pacquiao via wide margin unanimous decision, Rios was not able to show his brand of Rios boxing. Alvarado and Pacquiao implemented a game plan that exposed how "one-dimensional" Rios is. Okay fine. Rios might be one-dimensional but I'll forget about that because this time he will face another fighter that is more than willing to stay in the pocket and trade bombs after bombs. We will see both men walking each other in the ring. We will see blood! We will see war!

Argentinean Diego Chaves, (23-1, 19 KO) despite the visa issues and all was able to touch down on US soil with Arum's influence and Sen Reid. Everyone is not certain if Chaves is on or will be replaced until Wednesday. And he eventually arrived on Thursday morning, making him skip the final press conference in the afternoon.

Chaves, is former undefeated in 22 fights with 18 KO's prior to the Kieth Thurman bout. He was able to hung around with heavier arsenal Thurman for 10 rounds. He gave Thurman everything he could handle -- perhaps the toughest fight of Thurman. And I think, Chaves can hang around even more rounds against Rios who doesn't have exactly that one-punch-lights-out power. Rios breaks down an opponent with volume punching. He will break you down with his will to win. His best punch: the left hook to the body and right upper cut upstairs, once you will get tag with those punch in succession that will bring you down. And besides Rios has a remarkable chin and was not stop in his career.

Well, I will not get surprise if this bout will go to the distance. This will depend on who's willing to put more defense. Even if both men can handle each others' power, there's always threshold on how much a boxer can absorbed and still upright. I'm certain that if both men feel that they can absorb each other's best punch -- they will forget defense. If they do that, there might be a stoppage, but that would be not earlier than round 9.

On Saturday night, let's forget about those PPV fights that we all know whose gonna win and those same-card-different-opponent bullshit cards. Tonight we will see a boxing fight. And I believe Rios and Chaves will deliver.

This past weekend, the "Champions of Gold" boxing card in Macau produced the anticipated results with ease. The main man of the card, Zou Shiming won via unanimous decision to the tune of 99-91, 99-91, and 97-93. Although Shiming (5-0, 1 KO) still unable to duplicate the lone win via knockout (he's looking for that KO the entire fight but his punching power would not warrant the KO) in his career, dominated Luis De la Rosa of Columbia the entire fight. His quickness and boxing carried the night This was Shiming's first full ten-round fight. It seems, he will be gearing up for world title, for his next fight.

Cuban former two-time Olympic gold medalist, Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KO) had stepped up his game and wanted to erase the notion that he's a "boring" fighter. In the process of doing so, he extremely rushed to the extent that it looked like a bad win for him. In Round 1, for me, it looks like he pulled a Mayweather cheap shot that finished the still head-butt-dizzy Sod Kokietgym of Thailand. You can find my complete observation of the fight here.

Fil-American Brian Viloria (34-4, 20 KO), also won with ease against Jose Alfredo Zuniga who was not able to get up after absorbing a left hook to the body that appeared to be a liver-punch, in Round 5.

Miguel Cotto returns to Madison Square Garden---the arena he calls "home" to face middleweight boss Sergio Martinez of Argentina for the WBC title.

On Saturday night, Transnational Boxing Rankings Board recognized middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, defends his WBC title, against four division titlist, Miguel Cotto at the Madison Square Garden, New York, New York.

In the buildup of this fight, animosity becomes evident to both fighters. There were issues of disrespect. Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO's) being the defending champion feels disrespected on Cotto's demands.

In this card's billing, Cotto demanded that his name should come first, although, he's the challenger. This fight is billed Cotto vs. Martinez, which is supposed to be Martinez vs. Cotto, being Martinez as the champion. Maybe to some people or fighters this is no big-deal. But for Martinez he feels disrespected. He branded Cotto a "diva".

Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO's) said, in the program Face-off, hosted by HBO's Max Kellerman that he has been in this "position" before. It's not being who the champion is. But who packs the arena. When Cotto defended his WBO welterweight title against Pacquiao in 2009---that was billed Pacquiao vs. Cotto---wherein he lost via knockout.

Cotto says that Madison Square Garden is his "second home". He fought in the iconic Madison Square Garden eight times. And he has a terrific record of 7wins with only 1 loss. No wonder who packs the arena.

But Martinez wants respect. And he wants to gain respect in the ring come fight night.

The factor I see here for Martinez to win is his size advantage. An old boxing adage: A good big man always beats a good little man.

Sergio has been haunted by knee injuries since his win against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He's sideline for more than one year. And at 39, he's no longer the same fighter who knocked out cold the taller and bigger Paul Williams in their rematch four years ago. He's power obviously looks diminished against a much bigger Chavez whom he blooded and bruised but unable to stop.

Although, Martinez' speed cope up with bigger and usually slower fighters but against a smaller but faster Cotto, it could be critical.

I think, it boils down to how Martinez will capitalize his size advantage to secure victory. Martinez used to fight much taller opponent. But he beat them with his speed and power. But with his knee issues, against a faster Cotto I think Martinez has serious problems.

I think, Cotto, under the guidance of Freddie Roach, will employ the same strategy that gives Martinez his victories in the ring---fast combinations and stay away in the pocket using foot speed.

I believed Cotto will be much faster than Martinez, so his speed will cruise to a unanimous decision.

Nonito Donaire gets another championship in his fourth weight class tonight at the Cotai Arena in Macau, China. But it didn't happen without any controversy. It is what it is, because this is boxing. But the commission there should do some investigation.

The bout was stop after four rounds of bizarre, frustrating but entertaining action. It is bizarre, because the score they announced was 49-46. How the hell was that?  After four rounds! Maybe the officials thought the fight went Round 5, or Contreras wrongly read it. It is entertaining because we saw knockdown and blood. It was indeed a fight.  But it was frustrating also because we want some more.

This is how it happened; Donaire (33-2, 21 KO's) got cut above the left eye before the end of the first round. In the replay you can't determine whether it is from clashes of head or from a punch. Donaire complained about the cut. But what adds the confusion is that the referee didn’t rule anything out.

In the second round, everybody assumed that the cut is coming from a punch. Should the doctor advised the referee to stop the fight---Vetyeka should win by TKO. Donaire again complain during the course of action in the ring due to clashes of head. But still there's no word from the referee. It's either Mr. Pabon should acknowledge or warns Donaire for turning his back away from the champion.

In third round Donaire comes out smoking, and I believed he still assumed that the cut he suffered in the first round is ruled out coming from a punch. There's a sense of urgency from Donaire as he pressed forward towards Vetyeka.

In Round 4, Vetyeka  (26-3, 16 KO) has Donaire's back towards the rope as he fights back the challenger. But Donaire countered with a hard left hook---Donaire's money punch---that landed clean on Vetyeka. Vetyeka went hard to the floor! But he manages to get up and finished the round.

However, to everyone's surprise, the fight was stopped after referee Pabon consulted ringside officials. And again everyone got another surprise---when the absurd score announced.

In the interview right after the fight Donaire's tone was apologetic and says "I'm sorry" to the fans. He knows he has been given some favor here. Although, he's not the one to blame here if there is any, it’s the officials.

"You seemed to be blaming yourself for winning the fight", asks veteran boxing commentator Larry Merchant. "The thing is like I said, I just want to give Simpiwe the biggest respect because it was a great fight, and he was a great champion. It's unfinished business. I want to finish it." exclaimed Donaire.

When Merchant turned to Vetyeka for an interview, I'm confused again; I thought Vetyeka speaks in English because Merchant didn't ask the interpreter regarding Vetyeka's answers on the first question. But when he asks the interpreter after his second question my mind was blown away.

What a confusing main event. Really!

Nonito Donaire was the 2012 "Fighter of the Year" on most boxing media outlets. He won all four championship fights against top caliber opponents in the same year. He defeated former world champions Jorge Arce by KO3, Toshiaki Nishioka TKO9, Jeffrey Mathebula UD12 and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. SD12.

Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO's) was all set to enter big time payday in 2013. But Olympian Guillermo Rigondeux took Donaire to a boxing clinic in April 2013. Donaire was outclassed and outwitted by the Cuban ring tactician in over 12 rounds of highly tactical fight. Donaire rebounded in the same year; knocking out former foe, Vic Darchinyan in round 9.

On Saturday, Donaire, now 31 years old, will face South Africa's Simpiwe Vetyeka for the WBA super world featherweight title in Cotai, Arena in Macau, China.

Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO's) retired and handed Chris John his first career defeat---after 15 years undefeated as a professional prize fighter in December in Australia. Vetyeka 33, is looking for recognition in the world stage---fighting almost entirely in South Africa---fought only once in the US. A win over Donaire is one big leap.

Donaire is looking for a second push of his career---reuniting with his father, which is now his trainer. Bob Arum of Top Rank, Donaire's promoter, said in an interview with ABS-CBN that he will line-up Donaire's opponent after he passed Vetyeka.

HBO will air the Nonito Donaire vs Simpiwe Vetyeka fight on tape delay in the afternoon to give way Froch-Groves fight from London, which HBO has live. However, BoxNation will air this card live at 9:00 ETD.
