Jason Pagara scores three knockdowns in route to TKO victory

Jason Pagara made quick work on Nicaraguan Santos Benavides for their 10 round non-title fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Pagara scored three knockdowns in round two before referee Referee Raul Caiz Sr. waived to stopped the contest.

Pagara landed combos to the head that sent Benavides to the floor for the first time. Another crushing right to the body dropped Benavides again. Pagara's left-right combination to the chin put the icing on the cake. Benavides visited the canvas again for good. The official time of the stoppage 2:52 seconds mark of round 2.

I think it's time to seriously step up the level of opponents for Jason Pagara as he continues to dominate mediocre opponents.

Pinoy Pride 33: Pinoy boxers’ moment to shine

Donnie Nietes is the longest-reigning Filipino boxing champion spanning 8 years. But that span of time being a champion he never had a fight in the US. A fight in the US is an ultimate dream of a non-US-resident professional boxer. In the US most big-time boxing card happens.

Not only Nietes will fight first time in the US. Pagara brothers Jason and Albert, and Mark Magsayo will also debut on US soil. They will fight separate opponents.

Nietes (36-1-4, 21Kos) will headline Pinoy Pride 33 versus Mexican Juan Alejo. Although Mexico shares a border with the US, it's also Alejo’s (21-3, 13KOs) first fight in the US. What a coincidence!

Undefeated Albert Pagara (24-0-0, 17 KOs) faces KO artist William Gonzalez (27-5, 23 KOs) of Nicaragua. They will battle for Pagara’s intercontinental junior featherweight title. While his brother Jason will face Santos Benavides for 10 rounds or less in a non-title fight.

ALA Promotions in association with ABS-CBN Sports promotes Pinoy Pride 33. It's also ALA promotions' and ABS-CBN Sports' first time to stage a fight card in the US.

Michael Aldequer's successful Pinoy Pride series originates in Cebu, Philippines. He found tremendous success in the Philippines and in the middle east. Particularly Dubai.

With so much of first time and outcome might be uncertain. But what is certain is that: Pinoy boxers will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in the US boxing ring.

I expect Pinoy boxers to give their very best. This fight will be their ticket to better opportunities and bigger paydays.

Nietes talked about betting pound-for-pound new kingpin Roman Gonzalez if given a chance. So, Nietes need not only win but should look impressive. And get past Alejo for a possible fight with Roman. Gonzalez will also fight on the same night at a different venue. He will face Filipino-American Brian Viloria.

But well, who knows if Viloria bets Roman, it might set up a fight with Nietes (could be unlikely even if Viloria wins as this two sparred in preparation for their separate opponents). Just exploring possibilities here...

For Albert and Jason Pagara, and Mark Magsayo, it is their time to impress the American fans. If they will come out victorious in a spectacular manner; big fights await.

Pagara brothers aim to score spectacular knockout wins in Dubai

In their first fight overseas, brothers Albert and Jason Pagara will face separate Mexican foes on Pinoy Pride 32 dubbed "Duel in Dubai II" on Friday night at the Dubai world Trade Center.

The undefeated "Prince" Albert Pagara (23-0, 16 KOs) will face Jesus Rios of Mexico for the younger Pagara's super bantamweight title, while the older brother Jason, will square off Ramon Alcaraz for a 10-round non-title bout at the junior welterweight division.

Albert, who tipped the scales weighing 121.5 lbs. during Thursday's weigh-in, said that he might look for the knockout.

“Makuha ko sa timing, focus lang sa ibabaw ng ring, makukuha din ‘yan [Rios] ng knockout", says Albert Pagara during their visit at Tag 91.1, a popular radio station in Dubai, referring to his opponent Jesus Rios.

Jesus Rios (31-7) weighed over the division limit and registered on the scales at 125.8 during the weigh-in at the Boracay Club in Dubai. He was given two hours to remove that excess baggage or he will lose the opportunity for Pagara's title on the scales.

Jason Pagara (35-2, 22 KO's) who weighed a little over the junior welterweight limit at 142.4 lbs. was also confident of delivering a spectacular showing in front of OFWs in Dubai against Ramon Alcaraz (15-4) for a 10-round bout. Alcaraz also weighed over the limit at 142.6 but the fight is still a go as it is for a non-title fight.

An Opportunity Stateside

An impressive performance from the Pagara brothers in front of OFW boxing fans could earn the opportunity to be among those fighters that ALA promotions will showcase on their debut in the US this coming October.

Overwhelming ticket demand

Tony Aldequer of ALA promotions doubled the seating capacity of the venue for "Duel in Dubai II" as the previous card was sold out and there was no seat available for the media who wanted to cover the previous fight.

The previous fight loses sight in the local scene as the local media was not able to cover. Duel in Dubai first installment was held in a much smaller venue.

Expecting more boxing cards in Dubai

If Dubai World Trade Center, a much bigger venue will be jam-packed Friday night, I'm expecting bigger boxing cards pouring in the oil-rich Emirates state, which is also home of thousands of Filipino expatriates.

Let say Amir Khan-Pacquiao next year? Or Donaire-Quigg in November?

Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, (35-1-4, 21 KO’s), longest reigning Filipino champion, defended his junior flyweight title against Mexican Gilberto Parra. The Mexican was stop after Round 9. Parra (19-3, 17 KO's) was not allowed to answer the bell to begin Round 10. He suffered a nasty cut below his left eye from a Nietes’ solid right hand.

Upon the advice of ringside physician, referee Jack Reiss stopped the contest.

Before the stoppage, Nietes dropped Parra in Round 8. He landed a hard right to the head that sent Parra down. The crafty Mexican was able to beat the count and continue with wobbled legs. He’s hanging on to dear life until the end of Round 8, as Nietes was so determine to finish the challenger.

But Parra to his credit, used lateral movements, reach advantage and evaded finishing blows from the champion.

During the post-fight conference, ALA boss Michael Aldequer says that Donnie Nietes will face Francisco Rodriquez on July 4 in Cebu. And already had preliminary talks with Zanfer Promotions about an Estrada fight.

Nonito Donaire scores an impressive TKO victory over William Prado

In the co-feature bout of the night, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (34-3, 21 KO’s) scored a second round knockout victory over William Prado (22-4-1, 15 KO’s) of Brazil. In the first round, it is obvious Prado had no match with Donaire’s fire power. Although Prado was moving forward to Donaire, but was not throwing any significant punches.

In Round 2, Donaire opened up with series of haymakers from his vaunted left hook. He wobbled Prado and didn’t waste time to finish the business at hand. He pummeled Prado to the ropes until referee Bruce Mc Tavish stepped in to save Prado from further damage.

Donaire, decided to move back down in weight to 122 pounds for this fight after a knockout defeat over much bigger and stronger Nicholas Walters at featherweight.

With the win, Donaire aims another title fight before the year ends at 122 -- a division whom he dominated in 2012 and named fighter of the year, winning all four fights in the same year.
In an interview, Donaire called out Leo Santa. And also said he's open for a rematch with master tactician Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“I’m all in” says Nonito Donaire when ask about a possible rematch with 122 pound division champion--Guillermo Rigondeaux or a showdown with fast-rising star Leo Santa Cruz.

Rigondeaux is the 122 pound world champion according to the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.

Rigondeaux defeated Donaire when they first met in April 2013.

Albert Pagara retires Rodolfo Hernandez after Round 4

Albert Pagara (23-0, 16 KO’s) maintained unbeaten record by preventing Rodolfo Hernandez (26-6-1, 24 KO’s) to leave his corner to start the fifth stanza. According to Hernandez's corner, he injured his hand and is unable to continue.

Pagara has superior fire power over the Mexican who was knockdown in the first round.

According to Aldequer, Pagara will begin training in the States in preparation for a fight in Dubai on June 12 against an opponent yet to be named.

Pinoy Pride 26 results: Pagara brothers, Banal win by knockout

Brothers Jason and Albert Pagara both win by stoppage in the Pinoy Pride 26th edition at the full house Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. AJ "Bazooka" Banal also wins an impressive second round knockout.

Cebu City - ALA Boxing's Jason Pagara retains WBO International light welterweight title, stopping tough-as-nails opponent, Mario Meraz of Mexico in Round 4, for the Pinoy Pride 26 series dubbed "Fist of the Future". Jason Pagara now improves his record to 34 wins, 21 by way of stoppage, with only two defeats. With the impressive win, Pagara, who currently ranks number 3 in the WBO, could be in line for the light welterweight title, any time soon.

Prior to the stoppage Pagara scored a knockdown in the opening round.

A slug-fest occurred early in Round 3, and Pagara was making the most out of the exchanges, landing crisp lefts and uppercuts.

In Round 4, Pagara landed clean five or more power left hooks to the head of Meraz. But to my surprise, Meraz was still standing. The Mexican challenger showed how big his heart is, standing in front of Pagara, absorbing left hooks after left hooks. Meraz, who now dropped his record to 20 wins, 16 by KO's and 4 defeats, even hurt Pagara with a solid counter right hand.

However, the start of an end for Meraz came in the dying seconds in Round 4. Pagara landed, yet again, another left hook that brought down Meraz to the floor. Meraz got up immediately, but obviously hurt, although he beat the count. He answered positively when ask by referee Tapdasan if he wanted to continue and raise his hands twice. But Tapdasan waived it off and stopped the fight. Meraz protested!

For me, it seemed premature to stop the contest giving the fact that the guy stood up quickly and obviously not disoriented and with only a second left in the round.

Anyway, as what Abac Cordero, sports writer at the Philippine STAR, said on his tweet "I'm not the referee" to say this things, but I'm entitled to my opinion though.

Albert Pagara KO1 Hugo Partida, wins junior featherweight intercontinental title

Albert Pagara (21-0, 15 KO's) remains undefeated by scoring knock down twice, and ultimately knocks out Hugo Partida (21-5-2, 15 KO's) in the very first round. Pagara landed crisp textbook one-two's to the head that made Partida two quick trips to the floor. A murderous left hook finishes Partida, and referee Bruce McTavish rightfully stops the contest 1:18 in Round 1.

AJ "Bazooka" Banal KO2 Defry Palulu

AJ Banal made a statement tonight knocking out his Indonesian opponent Defry Palulu in Round 2. A thudding left hand that seemed to be a liver-punch dropped Palulu down. The previously unbeaten Palulu now dropped to 10-1, 9 KO's stayed down several minutes. The official time of the stoppage 2:29 in Round 2.

It was indeed another night of knockouts from the Filipino pugs that delight the crowd at the venue and the to all the fans watching the fight.
