Watch: Alexander Povitkin's horrific knockout of David Price

Alexander Povetkin demolished David Price with a vicious overhand right followed by a left hand. The overhand right obviously sent Price to the wonderland. It seemed to me that Price was out from the overhand right and the second punch looks unnecessary should the referee quick enough to recognize the reaction from Price. Watch below.

Alexander Povetkin retains title, Wilder next?

They didn't have knives, but both men suffered cut.

Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22KOs) retained his title after a dominating performance over Mariusz Wach (31-2, 17KOs) on Wednesday night at the Basket-Hall Arena, Kazan, Russia.

In the early round, Wach's long jab did the damage to Povetkin's left eye that made Povetkin's corner busy working with the cut the entire fight.

But in the middle rounds, Povetkin stepped up his offense, cracking Wach with a hard right and left hooks to the head. And in the late rounds, Povetkin opened a cut on Wach's left eye that forced the ringside doctor to stop the fight after Round 11.

With the win, Povetkin could be facing undefeated American Deontay Wilder -- holder of another heavyweight title.

Alexander Povetkin vs Mike Perez results: Povetkin brutally stops Perez in Round 1

Alexander Povetkin vs Mike Perez results: Povetkin brutally stops Perez in Round 1

Alexander Povetkin brutally stops Mike Perez in 91 seconds, in the very first round, of their heavyweight clash in Luzhniki, Moscow in Russia on Friday and becomes the mandatory challenger for Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title.

Povetkin (29-1, 21KO’s) wobbled Perez with a powerful right hand to the chest, 2:21 minute mark. Again another right hand landed but this time put Perez to the floor at around 1:48 mark. I thought at that point Perez had enough and the fight is over.

Perez (21-2-1, 13KO’s) was able to beat the count and referee Massimo Barrovecchio allowed him to continue. A couple of shots from Povetkin put down again Perez and the referee stops the fight without counting.

It was the most spectacular Povetkin performance tonight. I see a Klitschko rematch in the near future if Povetkin get past Wilder if their fight materializes.

Here are the rest of Alexander Povetkin vs Mike Perez results

Grigory Drozd TKO9 Lukasz Janik

Grigory Drozd (40-1, 27 KO's) retains WBC cruiserweight title by stopping Lukasz Janik (28-3, 15KO's) in Round 9. Referee Ian John-Lewis stops the contest around 2:07 mark of the ninth round. Drozd pummels Janik with couple of hard lefts and rights that opted the referee to stepped in.

Rakhim Chakhkiev KO8 Junior Anthony Wright

Beijing Olympic gold medalist Rakhim Chakhkiev (23-1, 18 KO's) knocks out Junior Anthony Wright (22-2, 17 KO's) with a cracking left hand to the body that sends Wright crashing to the floor at 2:29 in Round 8 of their cruiserweight title match.

Dmitry Kudryashov TKO 6 Vikapita Meroro

Dmitry Kudryashov stops Vikapita Meroro in Round 6 at Luzhniki, Moscow in Russia.

The pro-Kudryashov crowd keep chanting Kudryashov name from round 1. But it took more than the expected round for Kudryashov to finish the job at hand. Kudryashov is very tentative in his offense in the the first four rounds, although his walking Meroro. He keeps coming but not able to get through his offense as Meroro smartly clinch as Kudryashov try to execute his offense. Read More...

Alexander Povetkin knocks out Carlos Takam in Round 10

Alexander Povetkin managed to score a huge knockout win tonight in front of his chanting fans at Luzhniki, Moscow, in Russia against a very game and athletic competitor Carlos Takam in 'must win' bout for both fighters in the heavyweight division. It was an extremely entertaining fight that made the partisan crowd chanting from start to end.

takamIn early rounds, it seemed that Povetkin was not able to find his rhythm. His punches were off mark and was tagged by several overhand rights from Takam. I think he's behind from the scorecards before the knockdown in Round 9.

One thing I noticed: Povetkin is not using his jab to set his punches. While Takam was very effective in his jab from the distance. Although Povetkin was effective with his uppercuts from the inside it is obvious that the 33 years old Takam was the busier fighter who threw more and landed more punches.

However, the power of Povetkin carried the night. In Round 9, he landed a solid punch few seconds before the end of the round that sent down Takam. The native of Cameroon although managed to get up and beat the count was obviously hurt.  If the knockdown happened a little bit early, I think, the fight will end in Round 9 itself.

The bell sounded to end Round 9 before even the referee signaled to resume the fight.

In Round 10, Takam came out bouncing on his feet. I thought he recuperated from the previous knockdown. But when the 35 year old Povetkin, who's only lost was against  Wladimir Klitschko last year, pressed forward, Takam was not able to use his feet to evade. Instead, Takam tried to slug it out, but Povetkin landed a strong right-left combination that sent Takam flat on his back.

The referee did not bother to count and immediately stopped the contest and call for ringside help to assess Takam's condition.

With the win, Povetkin was again in the mix for the world title shot. But granted he will be given the shot again against heavyweight kingpin,  Wladimir Klitschko -- we all know what will happen... Right? I'm not entertained with the first fight at all. It was a boring fight wherein Klitschko was happy to use his long jab and clinched every time Povetkin came in. He never engaged Povetkin in a fight. He was there to capitalize all his advantages and bring home his money, not thinking the fans that pay to be entertained.

Do you want to see Alexander Povetkin in a rematch with  Wladimir Klitschko?
