Eric Morales although surprised why Manny Pacquiao still fighting at his 40s, he still picked Pacquiao to win via a 12-round decision or a late knockout over a younger opponent in Keith Thurman.

Morales was part of a panel discussion about the Pacquiao-Thurman fight this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Morales was surprised Pacquiao still fighting in the elite level despite the wars he's been into. Morales and Pacquiao have one of the best trilogies in boxing. Morales beat Pacquiao in their first fight in 2005. Pacquiao beat Morales in their next two fights the following year.

Well, who will not be surprised why Pacquiao still fighting at 40. Pacquiao already is a senator in the Philippines. He has his carved his name in boxing. I mean, what else needed to be proven in boxing?

Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) loves to prove something that others normally don't believe.

When he fought De La Hoya, Pacquiao proved that a good little man can beat a good big man. It should be the other way around right?

When he got two successive losses in 2012; a split decision loss to Tim Bradley, and a stunning 6 round knockout loss to his rival Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez, everyone thought Pacquiao will never be the same fighter again. Well, he came back strong defeating Brandon Rios.

This time Pacquiao wanted to prove that he can still do it at the elite level even at 40 years old. Can he prove it? This question will be answered on Saturday night.

As many expected, Manny Pacquiao won a wide unanimous decision over Adrien Broner on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judges Tim Cheatham and Glenn Feldman had it 116-112 and Dave Moretti 117-111 in favor of the Pacman.

Pacquiao, (61-7-2, 39 KOs) doesn't have much of a problem handling the man who calls himself "The Problem." He was able to land the cleaner shots and hurt Broner on two occasions. The fighting senator hurt Broner in the 7th and 9th Rounds.

Broner, (33-4-1, 24 KOs) on the other hand doesn't want to risk so much as he contended to focus more on defense. He tried to fend off Pacquiao's attacks and threw less output landing very few of them.

The funny thing is that Broner was so confident that he won the fight.

"I beat him," Broner said with full confidence. "Everybody out there knows I beat him. I controlled the fight. He was missing. I hit him clean more times. I beat him."

Pacquiao, with the win, could be in a potential rematch with rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. although there's no immediate word coming from Floyd who was present at ringside during the fight indicating a rematch.

Well, it's not the right time I believe to say such things though. Of course, they have to listen and feel if there's boxing fans' interest in a rematch at this point.

Okay! The main event fighters are ready. Although there were changes at the undercard due to weight issues, well, at least the main card is intact.

Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs) stepped on the scale first and registered at 146.5 pounds, he looked strong, in good shape, and ready to go tonight at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) stepped on the scale and registered, (as always below the welterweight limit) 146 pounds. He looked in tip-top shape and ready to rumble.

Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner meet face to face on Monday in New York for the press conference and formally announced their 19 January 2019 welterweight title fight at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a venue packed with press and boxing personalities, Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) was wearing a tuxedo and looking very calm. Broner (33-3-1 24 KOs) on the opposite side was wearing ripped jeans and a white t-shirt with a jacket on it.  The venue wasn't so ecstatic compared to Pacquiao's earlier fights in the US. There few bursts of laughter from the crowd though, when Broner threw a few lines of his usual antics. But, you know, the guy already had three losses so the bravado isn't like the way when "The Problem" was undefeated.

When Pacquiao was asked why he chose Broner, he said that "we can not underestimate him [Broner]. Everyone knows about Adrien Broner is good, experience boxer," said Pacquiao.

When asked about a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. he said that "Floyd when we met in Japan, we talked and you know he said he wants to come out from retirement to fight me... to challenge me."

In that situation, he tried to bully me or whatever. I answered that way because it is not part of my language. I'm a person that don't want to say trash talk. All I know is just to fight in the ring," said Pacquiao.

Broner's response to Pacquiao talking about a rematch with Floyd, "you might get punched Manny!"

"You've got to get past me first big big mother fucker," said Broner that drew laughter from the crowd.

When Broner asked about what it means to him to fight Pacquiao, Broner spoke in all honesty and seriously said "it means a lot to me honestly. A win, you know, I turn a legend overnight."

Pacquiao was also asked his take about the elite young fighter who is now ruling the welterweight division like Crawford, Spence Jr., Thurman. Pacquiao's response, I can fight anybody." And I said, oh! Be careful what you wish Mr. Senator.

In a recent tweet, Amir Khan said that he sees a problem with Adrien Broner fighting Manny Pacquiao. He told, referring to Broner "picking fights you know you can't win."

Khan (33-4, 20 KOs) suggested to Broner to have an easy fight first and then went on saying that he's done with Pacquiao first then Broner picks his leftovers then hashtag Maidana, Malignaggi, and Molina.

Khan won against Paul Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana, and Carlos Molina. Broner also won against Paul Malignaggi and Carlos Molina after Khan defeated them, but Broner lost to Marcos Maidana in a decision.

Khan has been chasing big fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao but none of these fights materialize.

Pacquiao vs Khan was on preliminary talks earlier but it fell apart and then boom! An announcement is made by Golden Boy Promotions that Khan is fighting Alvarez. No one saw it coming. Khan suffered a devastating knockout loss to Alvarez.

Meanwhile, UK fans wanted an all British showdown between Kell Brook and Amir Khan, but it seemed Amir isn't interested. Brook also surprised the boxing world when he fought Gennady Golovkin where he suffered the same fate as Khan. A devastating loss.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. crossed path with Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao in Japan and the undefeated Mayweather announces he's coming back to fight Pacquiao. Both men were attending a concert in Japan.

“I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another nine-figure pay-day on the way. I’m going to be back in December,” said Mayweather.

Pacquiao replied and said, "I have the belt."

Mayweather answered, “I don’t want to hear about your shoulder been hurt.”

So boxing fans, are you excited about it, or you still remember the amount you shell out for the first fight?

Well, for me I don't mind watching these aging fighter fight again, but at a lower cost. I think the entertainment value is still there for as long as Mayweather is willing to engage like the way he fought Maidana the first fight.

When I felt like losing my interest in the sports of boxing all I need to do is watch the above video. These were a compilation of the best boxing fights that happened in the last 10 years.

Once I watch them, my interest in boxing comes again alive and kicking and I wanted to write some boxing stuff again. Really, It was hectic lately that I wasn't able to update this lowly blog with anything.

Well hopefully after watching again the video above from the Youtube channel Boxing Extra I start writing again. Forgive me if I said I'm losing interest in boxing as I was not able to update regularly this blog. Two or some three years ago, I'm updating this blog on daily basis. I just write anything about everything boxing, but lately, it's not even on a weekly basis. My last post here was on 1st April.

It was not really losing interest, but it's the time to write. The demand for my day job was getting a toll on me, and as I age, it seemed that my body needed more rest. I can't wake up early at 5:00 AM (Kuwait Time) to watch live fights. It's usually early in the early Sunday morning here in Kuwait for a Saturday night big fights in the States. Before, I have no problem waking up early watching the boxing matches live and then write a quick post after. Now, it's tough for me.

Hopefully, I can, at least a single post weekly. Anyway, enjoy watching the above video. There's more compilation of boxing videos created by Boxing Extra.

The fight is on!

Despite some speculations as to how Jeff Horn would be able to get the 147-pound welterweight weight limit. It was answered at the weigh-in as Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs) registered just exactly at the limit.

Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs), as usual, weighted below the welterweight limit at 146 pounds. So we have a fight on Sunday at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Saturday night's Super Channel telecast will also feature two-time Irish Olympian Michael Conlan (2-0, 2 KOs), from Belfast, in a six-round featherweight bout against Jarrett "Juarez" Owen (5-4-3, 2 KOs), of Brisbane.In the 12-round co-feature,International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight world champion Jerwin "Pretty Boy" Ancajas (24-1-1, 16 KOs), of Cavite City, Philippines, will defend his title against top-rated contender Teiru Kinoshita (25-1-1, 8 KOs), of Kobe, Japan.  The live telecast will open with an eight-round middleweight bout between Shane Mosley, Jr. (10-1, 7 KOs), of Pomona, Calif. and son of former three-division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, and David Toussaint (10-0, 8 KOs), of Canberra, Australia.

Contrary to earlier report that Pacquiao-Khan will be held in April 2017, Michael Koncz told Yahoo Sports that it is decided to move it to May 19 to have time to promote the fight properly. The decision was made after a two-hour meeting with promoter Bob Arum on Tuesday.

“We decided to move it to May 19 here and May 20 in the United Emirates so we’d have time to promote it properly and make it a huge success. I have to talk to both fighters to get them to approve going in May instead of in April. I don’t think that will be any problem," says Koncz.

I really have a gut feeling that the fight will not push through in April as there's not enough time to promote and prepare the fight.

Well, after waiting for years for this fight to happen in the Middle East finally it will be here. This is what exactly the OFW's, especially in the GCC area, happen. They wanted to see their kabayan and idol Manny Pacquiao fight against an equally prominent opponent in Amir Khan in the GCC.

Although it has to be known yet where exactly in the United Arab Emirates the fight will be held. Most likely, it could be in Dubai. In the past, most of the boxing matches were held there. Two of the popular Pinoy Pride series were successfully held in Dubai before.

If you are going to look at it, Pacquiao-Khan would really do well on PPV compared to earlier reported opponent Jeff Horn of Australia.

"This is what we are waiting for, to see Pacquiao fight in UAE. We are very excited! Hopefully, it will push through," says Alan, 38, OFW in Dubai.

On Pacquiao's latest post on twitter, he mentioned that "my team and I are in negotiations with Amir Khan for our next fight" and "further announcement coming soon."

It was earlier reported that Pacquiao will face Jeff Horn in Australia. But it seemed that Pacquiao was not happy with the guaranteed purse and shifted his attention to Amir Khan. Of course, Khan is far more bankable compared to Horn. Reports also floating around that the potential fight could be held in Dubai.

In the past, every time Pacquiao planned for next fight, a lucrative Dubai offer keeps floating but nothing materializes so far.

Being an OFW in the Middle East, I really support this fight to happen in Dubai. I think Manny should fight in Dubai before retiring in boxing. He has lots of OFW supporters in the Middle East and besides, Khan also has a strong fan base there.

Earlier, Pacquiao was reported talking about another rematch with another rival Juan Manual Marquez for a fight in the Philippines before retiring. He's hoping for a Philippine government backing for a Marquez fight to materialize. Pacquiao's plans to fight again in front of his countrymen. Pacquiao last fought in the Philippines in 2006, beating Oscar Larios.

But Marquez is not interested to share a boxing ring with Pacquiao anymore. Well, a Dubai fight, which is home also of many Filipinos is a good alternative venue.

Meanwhile, Amir Khan has long been pushing for big time fight. He was challenging both Mayweather and Pacquiao in the past but was ditch twice and ended up fighting Saul Canelo Alvarez to the surprise of the boxing world. Khan lost to Canelo in a brutal one-punch knockout.

Pacquiao won his last two fights after losing to his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015.

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will come out from a short retirement to fight American Jessie Vargas, Saturday night, 5th Nov. at the Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) announced retirement after his victory over Timothy Bradley Jr. in 9th April to focus his bid for a Philippine senatorial seat, which he successfully won in May elections.

The fighting senator confirmed on 9th Aug. that he will come out of retirement and fight Vargas for the WBO world welterweight title.

"Yes, the fight is on. I have agreed to a Nov. 5 fight with reigning WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas," Pacquiao said in an interview with ESPN.com.

Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) won his last fight against top young welterweight Sadam Ali in 5th Mar. via knockout in the 9th round, but lost to Bradley, prior to the Ali fight, in a controversial 12-round decision.

The referee mistakenly held Vargas to stop throwing punches to a wobbling Bradley thinking the 12th round was over. Bradley regained footing and was able to finish the fight and won by decision.

The Las Vegas-based Vargas, 27, was the clear underdog against the experienced former congressman who is 10 years senior, but Vargas is confident he can do it.

“A lot of you guys do wish me luck, but in the back of your mind you’re thinking: ‘I don’t think he can do it.’ But I’m here to tell you I can,” said Vargas quoted by telegraph.co.uk.

Pacquiao stands at 5’ 5.5” while Vargas stands 4.5 inches taller at 5’10”. Vargas has a significant height advantage against the former 8-division champion. He also enjoys a 4-inch reach advantage measure from armpit to the fist.

In the undercard, Filipino American Nonito Donaire Jr. faces Jessie Magdaleno for the WBO super bantamweight title.

The Pacquiao-Bradley III promotion revolved around the idea that this would be the last fight of the great Manny Pacquiao.

Well, the fight itself wasn't the craving of boxing fans to happen. They wanted Pacquiao to fight the young up and comer in the 140 to the 147-pound division. These include Terrence Crawford, Keith Thurman, Jessie Vargas, and even Adrien Broner.

It was actually a useless rubber match. Pacquiao had nothing to prove against Bradley. He beat the guy up twice, although on the paper it was actually even at that time. Bradley won the first bout in a controversial decision. Pacquiao clearly beat Bradley in the rematch. But according to his promoter, Bob Arum, it's the best option Pacquiao had at that time -- business-wise.

The promotion believed the fight will sell by pushing that this will be the final fight of Pacquiao. Who would of course miss the final fight of one of the greatest boxing in this generation? There's an upcoming Philippine election also during that time, wherein Pacquiao planned to run as a senator. Pacquiao said that he will retire if he will win and focus on his job as a senator. He eventually won last May 2016 as one of the senators of the Philippine Republic. While as a congressman prior to being elected as senator, Pacquiao was heavily criticized at home for so many absences in congress.

I voted Manny Pacquiao for senator. Thinking that he will retire in boxing if he won the May election in the Philippines. He won. But the retirement was short-lived. Pacquiao reportedly taking on Jessie Vargas next. I said what? Manny really wanted to be called the "first in everything". The "first fighting congressman," the "first fighting senator," and who knows the "first fighting president." Such a fate! But isn't it ridiculous?

There's no question that Pacquiao is a generous man.

He wanted to help his countrymen. I voted for him because I wanted him to continue his service to the country. If he retired and had no tools to continue to help the people, then it's hard. He can't give his own personal resources all the time while retired in boxing. Boxing is his major source of income. Being a senator, he can continue to help and serve his people.

Well the millions of Filipinos that voted for him might be thinking the same, that's why he won the elections. But yet he un-retires! I don't know for what reasons why he wants to fight again?

Let me speculate, maybe because his entire boxing team is still intact, and he needs to finance their payroll? It's outright corruption if he funds the salaries of the entire boxing team from his senate funds. Mr. Duterte will not be happy. Well, sounds unfair for the Pacman if this is one of the reasons to fight again. I hope not. My unsolicited advice is that: he better streamlines his boxing team and terminates unnecessary services, and focuses on his team in the senate.

Senator-elect Manny Pacquiao spent PHP 66,428,468.88 during the senatorial campaign according to Statement of Contributions and Expendtures (SOCE) submitted to the Comission on Elections (Comelec).

Pacquiao, a boxer turned legislator, did not receive any cash and in-kind contributions from any sources or from his political party.

With no donations, "Pacman" can function his duties, agree to a bill he wanted to support, and create his own bill without taking any consideration the vested interest of donors. Pacquaio being known to his constituent in Sarangani where he serves as congressman for two terms in providing services funded from his own pocket.

According to the law, the salary of a Philippine senator is PHP 90,000 per month. This is equivalent to PHP 6,480,000 total salary in the 6-year term.

Philippine president-elect Rodrigo Duterte vowed to end corruption in government once he assumes office in the afternoon of 30th June 2016. He said that he will use PDAP (also known as pork barrel fund or discretionary funds) to increase the salaries of the police force and military.

Congressmen and Senators were provided with millions of funds coming from PDAP for the improvement of their constituents but the said funds have been misused.

According to Merriam Defensor Santiago, senators earn as much as PHP 5 million monthly from other senate funds. This is not included the "discretionary funds under the control of a senator could also range from P2.7 million to P4.5 million," according to Santiago.

Multi-division boxing titlist Manny Pacquiao has been proclaimed senator by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the Philippines.

Pacquiao who is also an incumbent congressman of the lone district of Sarangani finished the senatorial race at 7th place. He will end his term as congressman on 30th June 2016 and will commence duties as senator on the same day.

Now that Pacquiao won a senate sit, Arum said in an interview that any possibility of Filipino champion coming out of retirement and fight again "is out of the window."

Pacquiao announced his retirement from the sport of boxing after winning a third fight with Timothy Bradley Jr. in April in Las Vegas.
